Light oil is a liquid converted from crude oil (in a oil refinery) or heavy oil (in a chemical plant ). Light oil can be converted to petroleum gas, or used to create solid fuel and rocket fuel . Crude oil is a liquid extracted by pumpjacks from oil fields and can be converted to petroleum gas, light oil, and heavy oil by an oil refinery. It can be transported either in pipes, barrels or fluid wagons . It can also be used as ammo in flamethrower turrets . The cracking process changes the ratio for heavy oil to 13:1, which is much better. Petroleum gas also has a bad 20:1 ratio and should not be used to create solid fuel in most cases. However, full tanks of heavy oil, light oil, or petroleum gas can back up and block the oil refinery from refining more crude oil. Petroleum gas is a gas converted from crude oil (in an oil refinery) or light oil (in a chemical plant). Petroleum gas is used to create plastic bars and sulfur, important ingredients for mid-to-high-level recipes. Petroleum gas can also be used to create solid fuel, but the ratio of fuel created is not as efficient as that of light oil, and petroleum gas is usually too valuable to waste. Heavy oil and light oil can then be taken to a chemical plant to be broken down to other materials and used in manufacturing substances such as sulfuric acid. On a side note, crude oil itself can also be used as ammo for one of the game's initial defense systems -- Flamethrower Turrets. The heavy oil idea is great, but the new blue science looks a bit too easy. Sure, it's very interesting, but one of the inputs (red wire) takes hardly any effort to make. What this might do is make purple science and yellow science the new complexity hump. Although this isn't necessarily a bad thing,

Heavy oil (aka. fuel oil) has been a primary fuel on large machineries, such as furnaces, power plants, steam locomotives, ships, and some vehicles. The monstrous dreadnoughts are depending on heavy oil (together with coal) to provide all the power needed. So tell me: why the oils in Factorio world cannot be burnt and used as fuels?

if light oil or petroleum is backed up, the refinery will stop producing everything. if you don't have a backup issue, and want more heavy oil yield. use standard oil processing (30H 30L 40P) instead of advanced oil processing (10H 45L 55P) or do coal liquefaction (35H 15L 20P) welcome to the forums!

Heavy oil Heavy oil is a liquid produced by refining crude oil in an oil refinery. It can be processed into light oil and lubricant. Solid fuel can also be created from heavy oil. For producing petroleum gas, the optimal advanced oil processing ratio is 20:5:17 (advanced oil processing : heavy oil cracking : light oil cracking), and 8:2:7 is close enough. Using coal liquefaction, the ratio is 60:39:55 (coal liquefaction : heavy oil cracking : light oil cracking), and 12:8:11 is close enough. Uses a startup mod-setting for Petroleum Gas being locked behind Advanced Oil Processing. Default OFF. Changes: Basic Oil Processing produces only Heavy oil--inefficiently, encouraging switching to Advanced ASAP; Chemical science recipe requires only Heavy oil products. Electric engine introduces lubricant production and the assembler fluid input Heavy oil and light oil can then be taken to a chemical plant to be broken down to other materials and used in manufacturing substances such as sulfuric acid. Coal liquefaction is a process of converting coal into liquid hydrocarbons: liquid fuels and In this process, dry coal is mixed with heavy oil recycled from the process. A catalyst is typically added to the mixture. The reaction occurs at between

Heavy Oil has three uses : Flamethrower Fuel, Lubricant, Solid Fuel. Of these, Lubricant and possible Flamethrower Fuel are the more important. It can also be converted to Light Oil. Light Oil has two of those three uses : Flamethrower Fuel, and Solid Fuel. It can also be converted to Petroleum Gasoline. By contrast, heavy oil is inefficient for solid fuel and must be cracked twice to petrogas, making the ratio much worse. After you've satisfied your lubricant needs, there is no higher calling for your heavy oil than to bring the purifying Flame of Justice to the local population.
