Contract grading is a form of grading which results from cooperation between an instructor and their student, and entails a contracted number of assignments of specified quality that correspond to specific letter grades. Contract grading may be contrasted with other grading methods, such as grading on a curve or percentile systems. A grading contract is different in that it focuses on the content of the course and how that course (or each individual assignment) is evaluated and “graded.” If a student meets specific criteria set forth in the contract, that student will earn an “A” or a “B” or “C” (or whatever grade) in the course. assignment.
